While COVID challenged many traditional structures, it also illuminated a fast-growing thirst for the programs, research, and experiences IONS offers. Now is the time to “shine a light” on the implications of noetic research, leadership, and discoveries.
When astronaut Edgar Mitchell viewed the Earth from space he experienced what is now known as the “overview effect” – the awe-inspiring realization that our planet is merely a spaceship moving through the vastness of space. Mitchell was not alone: many astronauts have had similar life-changing experiences in space. For Edgar Mitchell, the experience was the impetus for launching the Institution for Noetic Sciences (IONS).
On May 28th, IONS Board Chair Claudia Welss hosted the ConnectIONS Live webinar, speaking with Frank White, author of The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution.
At the age of 24, David Lorimer pressed the “eject” button from his conventional career path in city merchant banking and set off on his quest for wisdom and deeper understanding of life. He arrived at Champagne Moet & Chandon in Epernay in the Autumn of 1976 with four boxes of books, combining reading with guiding visitors around the 18th century cellars. Since that time, he has devoted his life to education in the broadest sense.
It was 1979, I was a precocious 10 year-old, and I was in love with Lewis Carroll’s Symbolic Logic and the Game of Logic; a purple-and-green paperback my parents had left lying around. These were actually two books bound as one. You could read one book at the front, and when you got stuck on a problem, you could read the other book at the back. By the time you came back to the book at the front, your earlier problem would be solved. Though I remember being irritated that the print wasn’t upside-down in the book at the back like the new Devo retrospective, what I loved was that the two books met at the middle, mimicking the way the future and past feel when they meet in the now. That feeling of “folded time” seemed to charm this book with a magical vibration, at least from my child-self’s viewpoint.
On Friday, May 14, 2021, IONS Board Member Mark Gober was the guest speaker at our ConnectIONS Live free webinar. As the author of An End to Upside Down Thinking and An End to Upside Down Living, he has done extensive research on the question of consciousness and presented evidence that consciousness does not come from the brain. The accumulated scientific findings suggest that we are interconnected as part of a universal consciousness extending beyond the body.
What happens when we attend a silent meditation retreat, sign up for a spiritual seminar, or engage in a healing ritual? Anecdotally, we know that personal development experiences like these catalyze positive transformation and growth. We may have even had a few of these experiences ourselves.
Because many people are in the closet about their channeling experiences, they don’t quite realize how common they are. Channeling experiences are actually very common.
The pandemic has turned out to be a great equalizer – affecting each and every one of us in some way. More people have talked more openly about facing mental and emotional challenges than ever before. We are all talking more honestly about how we feel in the struggle to maintain resiliency and balance. We’re learning it’s “ok” to be more open about feelings of anxiety and loneliness, to grieve loss. When isolated from each other, when our families and livelihoods may be threatened, just about everyone becomes more vulnerable. And many have found new doorways to improving mental health during the pandemic – reducing travel, decreasing commute times, watching nature thrive with less pollution, and finding time to nurture our homes, gardens, and spiritual practices.
In this blog series, we are highlighting the practices that our IONS staff members use to connect to noetic information and energy. In April, Helané Wahbeh, IONS Director of Research, and Nina Fry-Kizler, Senior Designer of the Experience Department, hosted a free ConnectIONS Live webinar, The Noetic Signature™ Revealed, in which they presented the Phase II results of the Noetic Signature™ study and a guided meditation for participants to explore their own individual Noetic Signature™. After the webinar, we received so much feedback and requests for a recorded version of the Noetic Signature guided meditation that we decided to create a re-recorded and remastered version!
