When you hear the word channeling, what comes to mind? Many of us would think of Bashar, Seth, Barbara Marciniak, Edgar Cayce, etc. In other words, most people think of trance channeling, where a person allows a supposed entity (deceased spirits, aliens, angels, higher self, etc.) to use their body as a vehicle to communicate.

Mediumship and channeling have been around for centuries and involve practitioners acting as a bridge to apparently communicate with the deceased or other forms of intelligence by entering altered states of consciousness. While Western culture often questions its legitimacy, these practices are seeing growing public interest and are becoming big business, with psychic services, including mediumship, generating a whopping $2.2 billion in 2021 alone.
Throughout history, people have tapped into different mental states to glean insights from realms beyond everyday physical reality. This process has been known by various names like channeling, prophecy, oracle, or spiritual communication. No matter what it’s called, the essence remains the same: the channeler serves as a conduit to convey wisdom believed to stem from otherworldly beings or dimensions. The true source of information is unknown, and might be the unconscious mind, a higher self, telepathic connections, or non-physical entities – or all of the above.
In the intricate realm of consciousness lies a phenomenon that has both puzzled and intrigued humanity for centuries—trance. A type of altered state of consciousness, trance states cause the mind to transcend its ordinary boundaries by quieting the cognitive chatter that often fills our minds and altering levels of self-awareness, cognition, affect, orientation to time and place, wakefulness, and perception. Someone in a trance may not feel the passage of time, may feel that the boundaries of their body have dissolved, a slowness or cessation of thought, and vivid visual imagery.
In the hopes of connecting with dearly departed loved ones, many people turn to mediums, who claim to be able to communicate with those who have passed away. Although debates around mediumship still exist, some modern-day research has provided evidence that at least some information delivered by mediums is accurate, regardless of the true source of that information.

When people learn that I am a channeler as well as a scientist, they often ask me how to go about learning how to channel. I usually respond by sharing that there is no one right way to channel and it begins with intention.
