What is the “noetic quality,” and how does it relate to mystical and altered states of consciousness? 

A new study led by Dr. Helané Wahbeh, funded by the Marco Project in collaboration with the Institute of Noetic Sciences, is exploring the personal experiences of individuals who attend physical mediumship séances.

How often does your mind wander on a given day? The answer may vary from person to person. It would be fantastic to have a mechanism to peer into people’s minds and know what they think. As surprising as it sounds, we do have such a tool: language – we can ask people what they are thinking!

Introduction

The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) has a fifty-year-old mandate to democratize access to the noetic sciences. As part of that, over the last few years, IONS has been in connection with several people who are currently incarcerated and are running research, education, and empowerment programs in their facilities that are aligned with the work we do at IONS. One of these individuals has even been able to maintain their IONS membership while incarcerated, and another does volunteer work on one of our Science Team committees. 

The millennia-old debate on the philosophy of mind has long grappled with whether the mental and physical realms of the universe are separate, or whether one is derived from the other. In a recent article, IONS Chief Scientist Dean Radin, PhD reviewed the new book Dual-Aspect Monism and the Deep Structure of Meaning (by Harald Atmanspacher and Dean Rickles) where the authors propose a novel theory about the nature of reality: what if mind and matter are connected by meaning? 

IONS  is proud to announce the second annual Linda G. O’Bryant Noetic Sciences Research Prize to recognize important research in the field of consciousness. This year’s prize will be awarded to the best comprehensive review comparing non-local consciousness theories.

IONS is thrilled to share the return of in-person events. Recently, two events were held in Florida and Southern California. They marked the first in a series of in-person donor appreciation events IONS will be hosting around the country over the next year.
