NSC Oration Launched

Tim Hollingsworth OBE, Chief Executive, Sport England
Elevating Legacy – 2012-2022

The National Sports & Physical Activity Convention (NSC) 2023 has launched its major keynote event, the NSC Oration with Tim Hollingsworth OBE, Chief Executive of Sport England presenting.

Tim Hollingsworth OBE

Focused on the learnings from the London Olympics in 2012 through to the Commonwealth Games in 2022, providing insights and unpacking the learnings from the UK over the past decade. This is perfect timing after this week’s launch of the consultation paper from Brisbane 2032 and the Queensland Government ‘Elevate 2042’, focusing on the legacy that Australian’s are looking for.

Embracing London 2012 learnings  into last year with the Women’s Europe Football Championships and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and the successes that provided to legacy.

Tim will then join a panel of experts, each from a slightly different lens, including:

The Panel will explore the UK’s learnings in relation to the next decade from an Athlete wellbeing lens, Integrity perspective, Commonwealth Games ’26 lens, and the Government’s perspective.

The National Sports & Physical Activity Convention (NSC) has grown since 2016 as Australia/New Zealand’s largest and most prominent community sport and recreation convention and expo. This year the NSC returns to Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 27th and 28th July 2023. About Tim Hollingsworth

Former chief executive of the British Paralympic Association (BPA), Tim led them into four Paralympic Games including a best-ever Winter Games performance at PyeongChang 2018 – where ParalympicsGB won seven medals, including one gold.

That followed an impressive 147-medal haul at Rio 2016 as his team finished second in the medal table, up from third and 120 medals at London 2012.

Tim has also been at the forefront of the work that has increased the profile and interest of the Paralympic movement, driving the commercial and business growth of the BPA as a charity that challenges perceptions of disability in society.

Before his seven years with the BPA, Tim held the roles of director of policy and communications and chief operating officer at UK Sport.

Prior to that, he had a decade’s worth of experience working in senior corporate communications roles – all of which builds an impressive CV that saw him awarded an OBE in 2017.

About Minister Leigh

Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP is the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University.

He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Arts and Law. Andrew is a past recipient of the Economic Society of Australia’s Young Economist Award and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences.

Andrew is a keen triathlete and marathon runner, and hosts a podcast called The Good Life: Andrew Leigh in Conversation, about living a happier, healthier and more ethical life. Andrew is the father of three sons – Sebastian, Theodore and Zachary, and lives with his wife Gweneth in Canberra. He has been a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1991.

Australian Sports Foundation Launch the Sports Industry CEO Briefing at NSC23

The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) is pleased to launch the Sports Industry CEO Briefing in conjunction with the National Sports & Physical Activity Convention (NSC) this year in Melbourne on Thursday 27th July.

This inaugural Sports Industry CEO Briefing will focus on presenting a ‘State of the Nation’ regarding the latest funding trends and challenges facing the industry, and will be presented by The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP and ASF Chief Executive Officer Patrick Walker.

The ASF’s commitment to stimulating additional investment into the sports industry has never been more important as sports plan for the next decade in the run-up to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Walker, who will reveal the organization’s vision for supporting the industry to help itself financially over the next decade, said, “The Australian Sports Foundation is delighted to partner with the National Sports & Activity Convention on this very important sports industry event.”

“Our shared commitment to advancing the role of sport and physical activity in promoting health and wellbeing makes this collaboration a natural fit. We are proud to be working alongside an organisation that shares our passion for empowering individuals and communities to lead active, healthy lives.”

NSC23 Program & Expo Brochure

The National Sports & Physical Activity Convention 2023 is just around the corner and it promises to be an event not to be missed by anyone in the sports and physical activity industry. A brochure detailing all aspects of the event has recently hit desks around the industry and is now available online.
