The Institute of Noetic Sciences exists because of our members. And, we’ve just lost one of our most respected, earliest, and most dedicated ones. On January 5th, Claire Russell, a vibrant noetic explorer to the very last day, died at the age of 95.

The IONS Discovery Lab, or IDL for short, is one of the core ongoing research programs at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, an emblematic collaboration between the research team and our EarthRise Retreat Center. One of the primary objectives of IDL is to evaluate the effects of various transformative practices taking place at EarthRise and around the world. For nearly two years now, a total of over 1,400 surveys have been taken by individuals participating in approximately 50 different events, workshops, or studies. While this study is ongoing and participation is still growing, we have some sample results to share with you about the questions IDL is aiming to answer.
The Noetic Signature research study that began several months ago is nearing completion of its first phase, and the Science team at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, led by principal investigator Dr. Helané Wahbeh, wants to encourage eligible people who haven’t participated yet to share their experience.
I’m reading a book written by David Brooks titled The Second Mountain. In it, Brooks discusses the difference between a career and a vocation. He writes that in the vocation mentality one is not living on the ego level of consciousness, not guided by the frontal cortex.

This past year the Institute of Noetic Sciences embarked on one of the largest and most complex research projects in its history, the Exceptional Healers Pilot Study. For several months, the EarthRise campus hosted a succession of 17 subtle energy practitioners versed in a wide variety of modalities, each of whom spent a week conducting healing sessions with nearly 200 subjects seeking relief from the pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. IONS scientist Dr. Garret Yount led the research team conducting this ambitious project, with all the IONS scientists playing important roles in various aspects of the study. Phase 1 of the study is now complete and we’re excited to share some preliminary results.
