Timed with the Summer Solstice, the Institute of Noetic Sciences hosted our first-ever Giving Day on June 20, 2025. This special 90-minute online event brought together our global community for a powerful convergence of science, spirit, and human potential.
A groundbreaking scientific initiative has emerged that may redefine how we understand both life and consciousness. A diverse consortium of institutions, including the University of Arizona, Howard University, UC Santa Barbara, and Nanobiosym, has proposed an ambitious Center designed to explore the intersection of quantum physics and biology, dubbed CEQUAL: Center for Exploring Quantum Aspects of Life. What makes this effort particularly timely and significant is the involvement of IONS, as we are uniquely positioned to bridge empirical neuroscience with explorations of human consciousness.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) proudly announces the third annual Linda G. O’Bryant Noetic Sciences Research Prize. This year’s prize will be awarded to groundbreaking proposals that explore how to design, develop, and assess artificial intelligence systems that may demonstrate actual conscious awareness. That is, conscious awareness of some sort, similar to how humans are aware. With a total prize of $100,000, the 2025 award challenges researchers to create testable frameworks for conscious AI, particularly those incorporating non-local principles of consciousness.
A unique research study has begun that focuses on improving memory and cognitive function. The hope is that it can advance effective treatment options for patients with memory and cognitive impairment, which many people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia experience, and therefore possibly enhance their quality of life and daily functioning.
A code of ethics provides a crucial foundation for ethical decision-making within any professional field. As individuals, our personal beliefs and biases inevitably shape our decisions, and what may seem like a reasonable course of action in one profession can differ greatly in another. For the mediumship and trance channeling field, a well-defined code of ethics can offer clear structure and guidance, helping practitioners provide fair, high-quality care and fostering public trust. By adhering to a unified set of principles, medium and trance channeling professionals can help their clients feel secure and supported in using their services.
Earlier this year I invited the IONS Board to Washington, D.C. to partner with Space for Humanity (S4H) on a series of events designed to help introduce what I call a “noetic narrative”— one centered on the science of consciousness, interconnectedness, and human potential—into the heart of humanity’s spacefaring future.

Last month, the Institute of Noetic Sciences had the privilege of hosting a manager from Google DeepMind in its headquarters in Novato, California. Thomas Brophy, IONS President, Arnaud Delorme, and Garret Yount were there in person. Dean Radin, Helané Wahbeh, and IONS Board Chair Claudia Welss participated remotely. The visit marked the beginning of exploratory discussions around a possible collaboration between IONS and DeepMind—a collaboration that, if realized, could help bring scientific rigor and experimental grounding to one of the most profound questions of our time: Can artificial intelligence be conscious?
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of data collection for the collaborative research project titled IONS Discovery Lab + Linga Bhairavi Consecration Research Project. Conducted during the Linga Bhairavi Consecration event at the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences in Tennessee, this study represents a pioneering exploration into the psychophysiological and experiential effects of yogic consecration practices. Data were collected on hundreds of participants, both before and after the event, marking a major milestone for the IONS Discovery Lab (IDL) initiative.
