How do you feel when you are upset, depressed or crying? Do you feel the effects on your sinuses, eyes and even appetite. “I’m too upset to eat”.
I have had a lot of travel lately, and the most stressful part for me is not the crowds that I have to speak to, or the breakneck pace of the meetings, but the PACKING! I will work for days before the trip trying on, modeling, changing, and planning the outfits I will wear down to the button! My 3 year old loves the impromptu fashion shows — my husband not so much .

Coming home from Shop.com’s World Conference in Miami and I can’t help but think of what all 25,000 in attendance are doing today? Of course you leave motivated, educated and inspired, but that can wear off, in as short as a couple days. What keeps you going?
Confession: I am NOT an exercise addict.
Eye brows are more important than you think. They frame your face. I can always tell who is great with makeup based on their eye brows. Perfect brows are not impossible. Triangles and squares are not except-able. You don’t look cool with a “surprised” look on your face all the time. Once you learn, a little practice will make it easy to have perfect brows every day. Thanks to @elymarino, here is a fool proof way to obtain yours!
Does anyone sit all day at work? Um yes. From cubicles to offices to toll booths, sitting has become a national health hazard. Even though I work in front of a computer a lot I find myself standing because I follow my kids around while working or while cooking in the kitchen. If they are at school I’ve noticed I sit more. I’ve wondered which is better, to finally sit down or just keep standing? Well, I’ve learned that actually standing is better for you! We have a bistro table between our kitchen and living room and that has made a great standing office.
Ok, let’s be honest. All of us are guilty of using the TV or iPad as a babysitter sometimes…and that’s alright. Sometimes we need just a couple of minutes of no screaming, no “mommy, mommy, I need”, well you fill in the blank. Technology is not going away and in the current day and age, technology is everywhere we look. Between TV, tablets and video games, it’s hard to separate the children from their devices and get them outside. It makes me crazy but I cannot admit that we as parents can live without it so no wonder our children come pre wired out of the womb with USB capabilities and little fingers that somehow just know how to take pictures with your iphone, edit them and create videos, at 5??
One thing that is very important is, like so many things, leading by example. Chances are your child is seeing you on your laptop, phone or tablet on a regular basis. As a business owner, I work from home. My children see me on the computer a lot. So I need to balance it out. I take them on walks, we go to the park or go hiking. Getting them excited in exploring a trail, collecting different leaves or finding a stream is very beneficial. Kids love this kind of stuff, sometimes they just don’t realize it because they haven’t had the opportunity. Hopefully just the feeling of the sun on their skin and their feet in the grass will make them more likely to choose an outside activity. I find that just walking into an open field in my neighborhood my kids just love running in the grass, doing cartwheels chasing each other in open sky. There is something freeing whether you are an adult or a kid, about looking up into the expanse of the sky, breathing fresh air, and resetting from all the electrical influence of being indoors.
If you are having a hard time getting them to agree to play outside, bring the technology with you (supervised of course so you don’t find yourself with a phone in a puddle of water.). Sometimes if I really need to get some work done, I will bring my laptop or tablet outside with me while the kids play on their swing set in the backyard. Have them take photos of different plants, insects or animals they find. There are some great apps that will help your child find out the name of a plant by the picture they snap! So cool!
Gardening is another great tool. I have found to make the kids WANT to get out of the house. Planting a garden, checking in on it everyday, watering and harvesting. It’s a great learning experience for them in so many ways, plus it gets them really in touch with nature. We have an herb garden and little tomato plants that they love planting, watering and harvesting. Of course the little tomatoes don’t make it all the way in the house, they make it into their tummies.
With summer coming up, the time to be outside is here and there are so many ways to get the kids involved. From camping to barbecues, sit down and come up with some creative and fun excursions. Let the kids chime in with their thoughts and ideas and make it a weekly habit. Create a healthy relationship between your children and the outdoors that will last the rest of their lives. Besides, all they really want is to have a conversation with you, be listened to with your undivided attention and matter. “Listen to me with your eyes!” They know you are not listening, really, when you are watching a game or answering an email while you are listening. They came here to teach you, it’s not the other way around. Take some real time outdoors with your little people regularly. You think it’s for them but really it’s for you. You will learn so much because they have so much to teach you. If you don’t have any little people, you can borrow mine! 🙂
Live your life, love your life, go out to open spaces,
Do you have serious snot issues? No really…Are you or your family member coughing all the time? I have been blaming my three year old, for the three years I’ve lived in this house, for why we were always having sinus issues. I’m thinking she’s building her immune system. Plus at preschool she’s catching and kindly bringing everything home to us. Before moving to this house three years ago, we were never sick. As soon as we move here, it starts a consistent sinus problem that never seemed to go away. The kind that keeps you from breathing freely at night through your nose. The kind that makes you cough mucus constantly. The kind that makes you want to take your child out of pre school because “why in the world is someone always sick in this house??” IT WAS MOLD. Our air that we were breathing was making everyone sick. And not only that, but we were tired, drained, irritable, you name it, we felt BAD. Immune system under attack 24/7. Since I work at home and it was worse under my bedroom, I got the mass of it! It was never ending. This is going to sound like a commercial for real. Because I honestly cannot believer how freaking amazing I feel after having discovered we had a severe mold problem and getting rid of it. First of all, the house isn’t that old, 8 years. And it was the builders dream home that he lived in and the economy forced the sale. So why in the world would we suspect there being a drainage and moisture issue under the house? Recently, we had AdvantaClean out to inspect our house for purposes of cleaning the vents and I am SO glad that we made that call! It turns out that we did have mold…and lots of it. Before this point, I never knew how much damage mold can do to your health. The videos below are from my house. Now I felt so strongly that everyone needed this information that my husband and I chose to share our story. And we are not compensated for any of this. Every time I hear someone coughing, I wonder if they have mold. If their kids are snotty, I wonder if they have mold. Mold is a silent and sometimes deadly KILLER! People DIE from mold. I felt like if we could save someone the misery we had gone through then it was worth our time to document and share the life changing story that mold removal can be. Please share and hopefully you will help someone get their life back too. Check out these before and after photos!
