A growing trend in tourism is multi-generational travel, which is exactly what it sounds like: Individuals taking trips with parents and grandparents. Martz travelers were lucky enough to experience this on our Magical Michigan tour this summer when Carolyn, the matriarch of the Smith family, crossed off picturesque Mackinac Island from her bucket list. Watching Carolyn and her daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter enjoy the sights and sounds of the luxurious Grand Hotel, quaint Frankenmuth and the elk tour at Thunder Bay was fun for all of us. And, yes, the wine tasting, too. If you have ever joined Martz on a multi-day tour then you know that by the third day, we’re no longer strangers. We eat together, share laughter, take photos and check out everyone’s souvenirs and purchases. Sharing that trip with the Smiths was inspirational and, I hope, motivational. I found it so heartwarming to watch them create memories they’ll cherish forever along with loads of stories that they undoubtedly will share with the next generation.
I’ve taken my grandkids on a few bus trips, too, and so has my coworker Denise. And those of you who have gone to Niagara Falls with us probably met Gloria and her granddaughter Amanda.
