Although DMSC had plenty of activity to show at the recent QIF Summit, planning for the future is also an important task. Input from our membership is key to developing projects and programs that are relevant to the DMSC and QIF community. As an organization with limited resources, it is essential to deploy our DMSC talent and assets in a manner that provides the most value to the membership.
At a recent DMSC Board (BoD) meeting, QIF 4.0 Development Manager, Tom Kramer, provided a status report on the ongoing QIF 4.0 upgrade project. Back in October 2022, a DMSC Working Group (WG) was formed for the purpose of identifying and prioritizing a list of upgrades to the existing QIF 3.0 standard (aka ISO 23952:2020).

DMSC will be represented at the upcoming ISO TC 184 event in Paris (Saint-Denis, France) June 12 – 15, 2023. Jennifer Herron, Action Engineering CEO and DMSC Board Member, has been designated as an official DMSC Liaison to ISO. The event will include the Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC 184 and its subcommittees, working groups, and task forces.
The QIF 4.0 Working Group is looking for someone to help manage the regular meetings (1 hour, roughly every-other-week), when and if the current Chair, Daniel Campbell, is away on business travel.
In mid-2022, DMSC began the migration from using their Google Drive to using Microsoft SharePoint as the repository for sharing DMSC files and folders. This transition is now nearly complete, with current Working Group (WG) proceedings (and more) being available to all via DMSC SharePoint. Participation has been highly-active by way of the scheduled WG meetings and there has been strong demand to view completed documents for both the QIF 4.0 and Model-Based Characteristics (MBC) initiatives.
A substantial effort to upgrade the existing ANSI standard QIF 3.0, was formally commenced by DMSC back in October 2022. Regular 1-hour Working Group (WG) meetings have been held on an every-other-week cadence. Daniel Campbell (Capvidia) is the Working Group Chair, and Tom Kramer (TKC) is the Project Manager.
The planned QIF enhancements were a result of a Next QIF Phase 1 study to identify the needs of the QIF community, with the goal of accelerating QIF adoption.
A key strategy for the QIF 4.0 Working Group is to integrate expert content from other related DMSC Working Groups (WG).
The newly formed QIF 4.0 Working Group (WG) has been active, having held four meetings so far in 2022. The WG has been meeting (1-hour) every week to get things started, and will be changing cadence to every two weeks as we move into December and beyond. Daniel Campbell (Capvidia) is the WG Chair, and Dr. Tom Kramer is the WG Project Manager. The target for completion of QIF 4.0 is mid-year 2024, so the effort is still in its infancy stages.
