Food Rescue US Awarded Community Impact Award from GIFF

Greenwich International Film Festival (GIFF) announced today that they are awarding not one, but six Fairfield County based organizations with the GIFF Community Impact Award.  $100,000 will be given to the award recipients directly from GIFF Grant Funding at the virtual Community Impact Award Ceremony on February 6, 2021.

Miami Location Receives $50,000 Grant

Food Rescue US – Miami has been selected by The Miami Foundation in partnership with The PepsiCo Foundation to receive a $50,000 grant that will be designated to launch community kitchens within the Little Haiti area. The Community Kitchen Program supports employment for restaurant staff while providing chef-prepared meals free of charge to food insecure individuals and families, including furloughed and unemployed workers in many of the city’s most underserved areas. The program has also provided meals to frontline workers and local social service agencies.

Detroit Location Expanding Weekly Distributions

Local food recovery nonprofit Food Rescue US – Detroit has announced the expansion of their weekly farm distribution program, providing 1,600 25-pound produce boxes to over 15 community-based social service agencies. The program, that started in late May, will now continue through the end of August.

Food Rescue US Partners with 4-CT

In order to support the growing number of food insecure individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 in Connecticut, Food Rescue US is partnering with 4-CT, a special relief fund that is endorsed by Gov. Ned Lamont and that was formed in response to COVID-19 to support Connecticut residents. Support from 4-CT will enable Food Rescue US to expand their Restaurant Meal Program to provide for food insecure individuals and families throughout Fairfield County, Northwest Connecticut, New Haven, and West Hartford.
