Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently predicted to make landfall along the coast of Brisbane, Australia on Thursday night and into Friday morning.
The Category 2 storm is expected to bring extreme conditions, including up to 800mm of rainfall, wind gusts reaching 155kmph, and dangerous storm surge in low-lying areas. Tides are already reported to be one meter above normal, increasing the risk of significant coastal flooding. Cyclones are rare in Brisbane, with the last one, Cyclone Zoe, occurring in March 1974.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the devastating wildfires that have intensified overnight, including the Palisades, Hurst, Eaton, and Tyler fires.
These fast-moving fires have already consumed over 4,000 acres, forcing the evacuation of more than 80,000 individuals. Fueled by strong winds, the fires are being battled by over 1,400 firefighters.
At MAPTYCS, we are actively supporting our clients with wildfire insights to help navigate these challenging circumstances – the below screenshot from our platform shows latest wildfire maps from our partners at NASA.
