Many of us have had an intuition of a future event that turned out to be true, but far fewer have taken the time to practice, cultivate, and apply that skill to benefit their life. The Applied Precognition Project (APP) has a mission to do just that.
People all over the world believe in Anomalous Information Reception (AIR), a variety of extrasensory perceptions that extend beyond the traditional five senses. An example of AIR is the ability to sense or see past, present, or future emotional states of other people. These capacities are often depicted in modern entertainment as “supernatural” and “paranormal” content. While three in four Americans believe in paranormal phenomena, others argue that these experiences are a dissociative form of pathology, meaning they are part of a psychological disorder and are periods of dissociation. Dissociative disorders are characterized by an involuntary escape from and a disconnect between thoughts, identity, consciousness and memory. People from all age groups and racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds can experience a dissociative disorder. Some studies have shown that people who claim AIR have higher levels of dissociative symptoms but that these symptoms do not reach pathological levels.
The practice of meditation is believed to have existed well before written history. Today, the growth of research on meditation and the development of new applications incorporating meditation are advancing exponentially. This rapid expansion is due to the efforts of clinicians, theorists, and researchers — all of whom are interested in legitimizing meditation research by secularizing the various practices, translating them into clinically relevant interventions, and examining the effects of meditation on biological outcomes such as brain structure and function, immunity, and stress hormones. And yet, there is much more to know.

The IONS research team is working on a very exciting project with Bowling Green State University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and Baylor University. Funded by the Templeton Foundation, the goal of this study, entitled Fostering Spiritual and Religious Competencies in Mental Health Care is to bring more training in spiritual and religious background, beliefs, and practices to mental health professionals.
Precognition is the scientific name for a group of abilities that have to do with knowing or using information about the future without drawing on information from the five senses, memory, or logic. Premonitions are one of those abilities – a premonition is a feeling or sense about a future event. But precognition includes premonition as well as other ways of knowing, so precognition is the umbrella term that includes premonitions. So what exactly is precognition, again?
We are excited to announce a new free training course for those interested in facilitating an IONS Community Group! We designed this online program to provide tools, information, and resources to start and cultivate a local or virtual IONS Community Group, and to support facilitators in becoming confident about their knowledge and representation of IONS.

It’s more than the beauty of the 194 acres of rolling hills, abundant wildlife, or inspiring views. There is a sense that this land invites and supports our collective evolution. But what is the history of this land?
We are happy to announce that IONS has secured a limited amount of funding to organize our 3rd annual Hackation — a combination of a hackathon and vacation. We started these a couple of years ago as an enjoyable way to hack away at interesting problems and have fun at the same time. This is the third installment — past participants have loved it!
