There is a force in the universe that empowers and guides us to meet the challenges of our time. This force is not one of the known physical forces, a push-pull kinetic-energy force. It is a subtle impetus, an almost spiritual leaning or tendency. In the language of the life sciences, it can be called “a tropism,” an attraction toward particular resources or conditions. In the context of the systems sciences, it is an “attractor.” Attractors are conceptual tools for measuring the state of a complex system, assessing the configuration of the forces that maintain it in a steady or in a dynamically evolving state.

I am excited to share my experiences from the IONS Possibility Accelerator Experience workshop! I was a participant in the very first cohort (January 2021) and the workshop was a meaningful way for my heart, mind, and consciousness to kick off the new year.

Congratulations to IONS Senior Fellow, Dr. Marilyn Schlitz, who is one of two individuals selected to receive the Parapsychological Association‘s Outstanding Career Award this year. The award recognizes sustained (20 years or more) research or service contributions that have advanced the discipline of parapsychology.

Heartfelt thanks to all who participated in Giving Tuesday this year. As many of you know, Giving Tuesday marks the launch of our end-of-year fundraising campaign. This year, our campaign goal is $500,000 with $250,000 being provided by a group of donors as a challenge match. Our award-winning submission to the BICS essay contest may have the answer.

People throughout history and across all cultures have believed in some sort of afterlife — and there is a significant amount of scientific evidence that supports this belief. Our team at IONS recently submitted a paper on the survival of human consciousness after death to an essay contest hosted by the Bigelow Institute for Conscious Studies (BICS). We are pleased to announce that we were one of 29 winners of the contest, which saw a total of 205 essay submissions from over 1000 initial applicants.

What is global consciousness and why has it emerged as essential for leadership today as we navigate this urgent moment in human history? Why is it not just a “nice to have” but rather a “must” for anyone called to serve in a leadership role — in business, community, public service, and beyond?
