TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 30, 2022 – ReDefiners World Languages announced today a $16,500 grant from PNC Foundation in support of its literacy development initiative in Hillsborough County and the Academic Achievers Program at Mort Elementary. PNC’s funding will not only expand ReDefiners’ presence in Tampa, but also help drive increased literacy skills and/or social-emotional skills among nearly 150 students, kindergarten through fifth grade.
“Literacy is the great equalizer,” said Chad Loar, PNC regional president for West & Central Florida. “PNC supports the ReDefiners World Languages programs in Tampa because we recognize that economic vitality and a brighter future begins with better language skills supported by quality educational opportunities for children and families.”
Additionally, through a previous grant from AmeriCorps, ReDefiners World Languages will leverage the skills and experience of local senior citizens to tutor and empower the students to become multilingual young leaders.
“ReDefiners is incredibly thrilled to be working with PNC Foundation in our work to support the success of students in our county; academically, socially, and ultimately vocationally,” said Chantelle Daniels, ReDefiners Founder and Executive Director. “The adage, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ remains true, ReDefiners is humbled to come alongside Mort Elementary to provide additional support to such a diverse group of students and we are proud to have PNC in our proverbial village.”
The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group (www.pnc.com), actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture. Through PNC Grow Up Great®, its signature cause that began in 2004, PNC has created a bilingual $500 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life.
ReDefiners is a non-profit organization that prides itself on being a pioneer in early language education programming in Hillsborough County.
