A recent study was conducted to exam the prevalence of SIBO in obesity. Thirty (30) participants with suspected SIBO underwent lactulose hydrogen breath tests and wireless motility capsule (WMC). The results were that SIBO was more frequent among obese patients vs non-obese patients (88.9% vs 42.9%, P < .05). In conclusion, overweight patients suffering from stomach area discomfort (ie. bloating, flatulence, weakness etc.) should consider getting tested for SIBO.
