Recording Available: Humans as a Keystone Species – IONS

On Wednesday, July 22nd, 261 participants from around the globe joined together on Zoom with Lyla June, IONS 2019 NextGen Consciousness in Action Award Winner. The NextGen Consciousness in Action Awards, which began in 2017, honor up-and-coming professionals who seek to uplift culture and whose noetic work extends into domains beyond what we are focusing on here at IONS. As noetic seekers, we are continuously looking for ways to illustrate our deep interconnection and where we, as humans, can improve life for all on this planet.

We hope you enjoy this Noetic Global Gathering recording in which Lyla June, PhD student, shared her doctoral research on the regional scale foodscapes cultivated by First Nations and the ways in which these still impact our lives today. We explored how, through these practices, human beings can become a benevolent, and even essential, agent within the food webs and ecosystems that surround us.

About Lyla June, IONS 2019 NextGen Consciousness in Action Award Winner

Lyla June, PhD Student, is a poet, musician, human ecologist, public speaker, and community organizer of Diné (Navajo), Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and European lineages. She is a co-founder of The Taos Peace and Reconciliation Council, which works to heal intergenerational trauma and ethnic division in northern New Mexico. She is also the founder of Regeneration Festival, an annual celebration of children that occurs in 13 countries around the world every September.

She graduated with honors from Stanford University with a degree in Environmental Anthropology, holds a masters degree from the University of New Mexico with a concentration in American Indian Education, and has recently earned her PhD from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
